Most of Cape May County's lawns sit on barrier islands — Avalon, Stone Harbor, the Wildwoods, Sea Isle, Ocean City — where the soil is nearly pure sand: fast-draining, low in organic matter, and exposed to salt from both the ocean and the back bays. New sod needs a few inches of quality topsoil and deep, consistent watering to establish, and we lead with salt-tolerant tall fescue and blends over thirsty bluegrass.
