All-Terrain Forklift Delivery · Pallets Placed Where You Need Them
Not A Curb Dump.
Every CT Sod truck carries an all-terrain forklift. That means pallets get placed exactly where your crew needs them — side yards, back yards, slopes, soft ground, narrow gates. Not stacked at the end of the driveway requiring you to rent a pallet jack and a wheelbarrow relay.
(203) 806-4086Why this saves hours of labor
A pallet of sod weighs 2,000 to 3,000 pounds. There are 60-70 rolls on a pallet. Each roll weighs 35-50 pounds. If a delivery driver drops your pallet at the end of the driveway and the install is 150 feet away in the back yard, here’s what that costs you:
- •Two people moving rolls by wheelbarrow: 60-70 trips per pallet, roughly an hour per pallet of pure logistics before installation even starts.
- •Or a rented pallet jack: $50-80/day, doesn’t work on grass or gravel, won’t climb a slope.
- •Or a skid steer rental: $300-400/day plus delivery, plus the lawn damage.
- •Or the rolls sit in the sun on the driveway: heating up, drying out, losing freshness while you figure out logistics.
For a multi-pallet job, the forklift delivery saves a full day of labor and several hundred dollars in rentals. For a contractor crew, that’s the difference between making money on a job and losing money.
Where we can place pallets
Standard
Asphalt driveways, gravel driveways, flat lawn, side yards with normal gate width.
Routine but worth noting
Moderate slopes (up to ~15°), back yards with proper access, soft turf in dry conditions, gravel paths.
Doable with planning
Narrow gates 7-8 feet wide, sloped back yards reached through side yard access, deliveries to commercial sites with loading docks.
Hard limits
Gates under 7 feet, steep wet slopes, soft mulch beds, freshly poured concrete or pavers (under a week), low overhead under 7 feet, structures we’d risk damaging.
Jobsite prep checklist
A 60-second prep call before the truck arrives saves an hour on delivery day:
- 1.Clear the access path of cars, trash bins, hoses, toys, and equipment.
- 2.Pre-decide drop location — within wheelbarrow distance of the install, on flat-ish ground, ideally in shade.
- 3.Open any gates the forklift needs to pass through.
- 4.If pallets are going on the lawn in damp conditions, mark anything underground (sprinklers, septic lines, recent plantings).
- 5.Be on site or have someone there with authority to direct placement.
- 6.If you have specific access concerns (low branches, soft spots, fragile pavers), call us the day before so we can plan.
Frequently asked
Where do you place the pallets?
Anywhere on the property the forklift can safely reach. That includes side yards, back yards, sloped lawns, soft ground, gravel driveways, narrow gates (if wide enough for the forklift), and right next to where the crew is installing. We don't curb-dump unless that's actually what you want.
What are the size and access limits?
Our all-terrain forklifts need roughly an 8-foot-wide path of access and about 7 feet of overhead clearance. We can navigate moderate slopes, soft turf in dry conditions, gravel, and most lawn surfaces. Hard limits: steep wet slopes, structures we'd damage, narrow gates under 7 feet, and freshly poured concrete or pavers under one week old.
Will the forklift damage my lawn or driveway?
Our forklifts use turf-friendly tires that distribute weight broadly. On established lawn in dry conditions, the impact is minimal — you'll see tire impressions that bounce back within a few days. On wet ground or freshly seeded areas, we'll discuss placement options before driving on. Asphalt and concrete driveways: no issue. We'll skirt anything that looks structurally questionable.
What should I have ready when the truck arrives?
Clear the access path of cars, garbage cans, hoses, and toys. Decide in advance where you want the pallets dropped — ideally within wheelbarrow distance of where you're installing, on a flat-ish spot, out of direct hot sun if possible. If gates need to be opened, open them. Be there or have someone there to point.
Can you stack pallets if I'm storing them overnight?
We don't stack pallets on delivery — each pallet weighs 2,000-3,000 lbs and stacking compresses the bottom rolls. Install the day of delivery whenever possible. If overnight storage is unavoidable, keep them shaded, lightly moist, and install within 24-36 hours.
