Maywood Construction called CT Sod with a deadline-driven project in New Canaan, Connecticut. The original landscape schedule could no longer cover the required timeline, so we made last-minute arrangements to take on the full site-preparation, grading, and sod-installation scope covering approximately 7,000 square feet. It is the same kind of fixed-date call Turner Construction made for the 11,000 sq ft Greenwich school lawn — a contractor with a date that cannot move, and a lawn that has to be finished before it.
The fixed deadline is a new driveway scheduled for paving on Thursday, August 27. Before that happens, the access-road schedule included a separate propane-tank operation on Tuesday, with the obstruction expected to be cleared Wednesday. Those propane and driveway operations are being handled by other project trades — they are timing constraints for CT Sod, not part of our scope.
A Narrow Access Window Before the New Driveway
This job is not waiting on an open-ended landscape calendar. CT Sod started Saturday morning because the site work and lawn installation have to be completed before the driveway is paved Thursday.
A separate propane-tank operation was scheduled to occupy the access road Tuesday, with the obstruction expected to be cleared Wednesday — a tightly coordinated sequence before the paving crew arrives August 27. We are documenting that sequence because access can determine whether a deadline-driven landscape project succeeds just as much as square footage or crew size.
CT Sod's Scope on This Project
Our scope is the full site-preparation, grading, and sod installation for approximately 7,000 square feet. The driveway paving and propane-tank work belong to separate trades. CT Sod's job is to prepare the designated lawn areas, establish the finished grade for sod, and install the new turf within the available access window.
That distinction matters. The Friday photos are pre-work documentation, not a completion announcement, and the existing equipment shown in them is not presented as CT Sod's work. The dated updates below track what our crew is actually doing with the grade before sod goes down.
Why the Access Road Controls the Schedule
The access road shown in these photos leads into the active work area. A propane operation was scheduled to affect that route Tuesday, the obstruction is expected to be gone Wednesday, and the driveway is scheduled to be paved Thursday. That makes Saturday's start important: the site work cannot simply drift into the following week without colliding with other trades.
Update — Saturday, August 22, 8 A.M.: Fill and Topsoil On Site
CT Sod's crew opened the site Saturday morning as scheduled. By 8 a.m., tri-axle loads of screened fill and screened topsoil were staged beside the pool area, ready to spread with our track loader.
The grading plan uses the two materials differently. Screened fill handles the deeper elevation changes, and everywhere sod is going then gets 3 inches of screened topsoil over the corrected grade. By the end of the day we expect to move roughly 36 yards of screened fill and 120 yards of screened topsoil.
Update — Saturday, August 22, 2:30 P.M.: Soil Spreading and Prep Underway
By 2:30 p.m., the work had moved from staging materials to spreading and leveling screened topsoil along the pool-side lawn area. This is part of CT Sod's full site-preparation scope for the approximately 7,000-square-foot project — getting the surface ready for sod installation.
Update — Saturday, August 22, 5 P.M.: Six Loads Spread; Laser-Level Finish Work Monday
By 5 p.m. Saturday, six loads of soil had been spread across the New Canaan lawn areas, closing out the day's main spreading work. The crew stopped for the evening and starts again Monday for finish work with a laser level — the final grading, smoothing, and raking that have to be right before the approximately 7,000-square-foot sod installation. The driveway-paving deadline remains Thursday, August 27, so Monday's finish pass is the next step in the compressed sequence.

Update — Monday, August 24, 10 A.M.: Back On Site for Finish Grading
CT Sod's crew was back on the New Canaan site Monday morning for the scheduled finish work ahead of sod installation. The soil spread over the weekend is shaped across the lawn areas, and the 10 a.m. photos show where the grade stands — deeper elevation work continuing along the silt-fence line while the surfaces that will receive sod move toward finish grade.
Update — Tuesday, August 25, 4:25 P.M.: Site Prep Complete — Ready for Sod
By late Tuesday afternoon, the site preparation was done. The finish-grading pass that started Monday is complete across the lawn areas — the deeper elevation changes built up with screened fill, the sod areas dressed with screened topsoil, and the whole surface graded and raked out. The approximately 7,000 square feet is now ready for sod, with driveway paving still set for Thursday, August 27.
Update — Thursday, August 27, 5:25 P.M.: Sod Is Down Across the Lawn Areas
Two days after the lawn areas hit finish grade, the ground is green. Fresh-cut sod is down across the main back lawn — run out wide to meet the established lawn at the tree line — and up the rise beside the pool where Saturday's soil staging began.
The 5:25 p.m. photos tell the week's story in one frame: the deeper elevation changes built up with screened fill, the screened topsoil dressed and graded over them, and now tight-seamed rolls of fresh sod across the same surfaces that were bare, raked soil in Tuesday's photos. Update — Thursday, August 27, Evening: Final Material Count — 54 Yards of Fill, 140 Yards of Topsoil
With sod on the ground, the material totals for this project are final: 54 yards of screened fill and 140 yards of screened topsoil went into the site before the first roll was laid — 194 yards of material trucked in, spread, and graded across approximately 7,000 square feet. Saturday's opening delivery was planned at 36 yards of fill and 120 of topsoil; the finished grade ended up taking more of both.
