Cheshire sits in the broad valley between the West Rock and Sleeping Giant traprock ridges, with Lock 12 Historical Park preserving a working section of the old Farmington Canal at its center and Brooksvale Park on the wooded southern flank. The town runs from the historic Highland Avenue streetscape, through the tighter post-war neighborhoods in Mixville and along West Main, out to the open one-acre frontages of West Cheshire and the orchard country to the north, and up to the shaded eastern slopes near Roaring Brook Falls. Valley soils are productive sandy loam; the ridge properties sit on shallower loam over traprock. The long, visible Highland Avenue and West Main frontages make curb appeal the whole point of an install here.
CT Sod is based in nearby Milford, a short run down toward the Sound, so Cheshire is an easy install market for us. Pallets are cut to order at the farm the morning of installation, carried up the eastern-slope grades and down long West Cheshire gravel drives by all-terrain forklift, and laid by a crew that installs sod nearly every day across the region — backed by 30 years of sod industry experience. On the open frontages we lead with tall fescue for deep roots and traffic durability; the shaded Highland Avenue blocks and Roaring Brook slopes under sugar maple and oak get a bluegrass-fescue blend.

Your sod is cut at the farm the morning of installation — never stockpiled. Fresh sod establishes faster and handles transplant stress far better than a tired pallet, whether it's going onto productive valley sandy loam near Mixville or the shallower loam over traprock along the ridges.
The eastern-slope properties climb a real grade and the West Cheshire back roads run to long gravel driveways. Our forklift takes the pitch and the gravel and sets each pallet where the crew is working, rather than leaving it at the curb below.

The Farmington Canal greenway crossings limit truck staging on a few Cheshire streets. We plan the route before the truck rolls so staging is never a surprise, and the forklift covers the rest of the distance to the work area.
