11,000 Sq Ft at Central Middle School — Tuesday Call, Friday Finish

Turner Construction, the general contractor for the new Greenwich Central Middle School, called CT Sod directly about the school’s fixed ribbon-cutting deadline. The call came Tuesday, August 18, 2026; our crews mobilized Friday and had all 11,000 sq ft of sod installed and watered in that same day — three days from first call to finished lawn, with the ribbon cutting the following Monday. Open-soil areas visible in the drone views are part of the project landscaper’s separate hydroseed plan; CT Sod did not perform the hydroseeding.

Completed Friday, August 21, 2026 — ahead of Monday’s ribbon cutting

What to Know About Installing Sod in Greenwich

Greenwich properties — from Belle Haven and Riverside down by the water, through Old Greenwich and Cos Cob, up into Round Hill and the back-country estates off Round Hill Road and North Street — set a high bar for finished landscape work. The look depends as much on what's under the sod as what's on top: proper grading, clean seams, and turf that's still farm-fresh when it goes down.

Everything we know about installing sod in Greenwich, from backcountry clay and shoreline sand to the 100-foot wetlands rule, the no-Sunday noise ordinance, the summer leaf blower ban, and the July and August variance rule, is in the Greenwich sod guide.

Install day in Greenwich is built around fresh cutting. Once your quote is booked and scheduled, the sod is harvested at the farm that same morning, then loaded and driven down so it lands cool and still rooted rather than dried out on a rack. Long stone-pillar drives in the Backcountry and Mid-Country and the gated Belle Haven peninsula are exactly where a standard truck stops at the gate — our all-terrain forklift carries each pallet past the walls and hedge lines to the work site instead. From there the sod-only crew lays it tight-seamed across the graded base, and you leave install day with a watering plan for the critical first two weeks.

Why Property Owners in Greenwich Choose CT Sod

Proven At Central Middle School

When Turner Construction needed 11,000 sq ft down at the new Greenwich Central Middle School before a fixed ribbon-cutting, the call came Tuesday and the lawn was finished Friday — laid and watered in one day. That isn't a promise about what we could do in Greenwich; it's what we just did.

Farm-Cut, Same-Day Sod

Your sod is cut at the farm the morning of installation — never stockpiled. Fresh sod establishes faster and handles transplant stress more reliably than sod that's been sitting on a pallet.

Every Greenwich Neighborhood, Daily

Belle Haven, Cos Cob, Riverside, Glenville, Byram, Old Greenwich, Round Hill, North Greenwich, back-country — we install in every Greenwich neighborhood and know the access constraints, gate codes, and HOA rules before we get there.

All-Terrain Forklift Placement

Steep driveways, narrow estate lanes, side-yard access — our forklifts place pallets exactly where the crew needs them. No double-handling, no dragging across finished hardscape.

Two Service Options

Choose install-only if you (or your landscaper) handle the prep, or full-service turnkey including site prep. Both are available in Greenwich and across all eight states we serve.

Written Quote Before Work Starts

Every install is scoped per project — square footage, access, prep needs, drainage. You get a written quote with the work and inclusions spelled out before crews are scheduled. No surprises mid-job.

Sod-Specialist Crews

Residential, commercial, and contractor work is handled by crews focused on sod delivery, preparation, grading, and installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sod Installation in Greenwich

Have you actually installed sod in Greenwich?

Yes — most recently 11,000 sq ft at the new Central Middle School, hired directly by Turner Construction to hit the school's ribbon-cutting deadline: Tuesday call, Friday finish, laid and watered in one day. The full drone archive from that project is on this page. Residentially, our crews install across Belle Haven, Cos Cob, Riverside, Old Greenwich, and the back-country every season.

When is the best time to install sod in Greenwich?

Sod can go down through most of the growing season in Greenwich, but spring and early fall are the sweet spots — cooler air and steadier moisture help the roots knit in fast. Summer installs work well too as long as you can keep the new lawn watered through the first couple of weeks. We install right up against the cold, so late-season projects on the estate corridor are still very doable.

How long does a sod install take in Greenwich?

A typical residential lawn is a one-day install once the base is prepped, and full-service projects that include strip-out, topsoil, and grading usually run a few days depending on square footage and access. Long Backcountry drives and gated Belle Haven entries can add handling time, which is why we scope forklift access up front so install day stays on schedule.

Do you offer install-only, or is it always full-service in Greenwich?

Both. If you or your landscaper handle the prep, we come in install-only and lay the farm-cut sod. If you want it handled end to end, full-service covers stripping the old turf, fresh topsoil where it's needed, grading, rolling, and the install. The scope is spelled out in a written quote either way.

What should I expect for watering in the first two weeks?

New sod needs to stay consistently damp while it roots — plan on watering daily, and more than once a day in hot stretches, for roughly the first two weeks. Waterfront yards in Old Greenwich and Riverside dry unevenly in the salt air, so watch the edges. Hold off mowing until the sod is firmly rooted, usually around 14 to 21 days, and we hand off a watering plan on install day.

Can you just deliver the sod if I have my own crew?

Yes. If you have a landscaper or crew ready to lay it, we can deliver farm-cut pallets to your Greenwich property and place them at the work site with the forklift rather than leaving them at the gate. Our separate Greenwich sod delivery page covers that option in full.

I’ve had sod deliveries from CT Sod to properties I have in both Greenwich and Milford. Each sod delivery has been high quality bluegrass sod, and both my neighbors and landscaper admired the quality. Kayla in the office even texts you the exact time it will come the night before. I couldn’t be more impressed with the service and product I received from CT Sod. You will not be disappointed with this sod company.
