Why the LI Surcharge Exists

Sod is delivered by flatbed truck with an all-terrain forklift on board. A mainland delivery from the farm takes a few hours of driver time; Long Island adds the Throgs Neck or Whitestone crossing, in-island routing, and seasonal East End traffic. The +$0.30/sq ft surcharge covers the difference and keeps mainland customers from subsidizing the trip. The 1,200 sq ft minimum applies for the same reason — below that, the trip isn't economically deliverable.
