“I recently decided to purchase sod for my home. After carefully research my options for a sod company I decided to go with CT Sod from Connecticut. I called and spoke with Sean and explained to him what I wanted. Sean was very knowledgeable and assisted with answering the many questions I had. After ordering my sod and having it delivered CT Sod was also amazing in assisting in installing the sod. I would 100% recommend CT Sod, they are very knowledgeable and professional and were willing to meet my needs. They are definitely a five star company.”

Sod Varieties for Suffolk County
Eastern Long Island is sandy, maritime, and mild — Hamptons estates, North Fork farm country, and the Pine Barrens, all on fast-draining outwash soil near the salt. We lead with deep-rooted, salt-tolerant turf:
Black Beauty Tall Fescue
Deep-RootedDeep roots (2–3 ft), drought tolerance, refined look. Strong choice for partial-shade or lower-maintenance sites.
The top pick out here — tall fescue's deep roots handle Long Island's sandy, fast-draining soil and the salt air off the ocean and bays better than bluegrass.
Tall Fescue guide →Bluegrass-Fescue Blends
Most VersatileThe bluegrass look with fescue durability underneath. Excellent for properties wanting both aesthetics and resilience.
Our balanced default for inland and North Shore lots — bluegrass color with fescue durability for the mix of sun and estate-tree shade.
Best sod for the Hamptons →RTF (Rhizomatous Tall Fescue)
Best for Dogs & KidsSelf-repairing rhizome system fills in damage from foot traffic and dog use over time. Strongest performer for active family lawns.
Great for busy Hamptons summer homes and rentals; self-repairing rhizomes recover from heavy seasonal traffic.

The ClassicRich color and tight knit-in. The traditional choice for Suffolk County properties with established irrigation.
For open, sunny, irrigated showcase lawns set back from the salt — the classic look, but thirstier on sandy soil.

Sod on Eastern Long Island: Sandy Outwash, Salt Air & a Mild Maritime Climate
Suffolk County is the sandy end of Long Island — fast-draining glacial outwash across the South Fork (Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, Montauk, Sagaponack), the North Fork farm and vineyard country, and the Central Pine Barrens in between. The ocean and bays keep it among the region's mildest ground (roughly USDA zone 7a–7b), but that sandy soil drains hard and the salt air reaches inland, so we lead with deep-rooted, salt-tolerant tall fescue and blends laid over a fresh topsoil base that holds water and nutrients.
The North Shore estate corridor — Cold Spring Harbor, Lloyd Harbor — is hillier and more wooded over glacial moraine, where blends and fescue carry the shade. The South Fork is a summer market of second homes and rentals, so we plan installs around seasonal turnover, and new sod gets deep, consistent early watering in the sand. Recent project in Montauk

When Sodding a Waterfront Montauk Estate Goes Wrong
A $13.95M Build Well Development spec house on Tara Rd in Montauk — we delivered and laid 6,000 sq ft of fresh sod, the sprinklers failed to kick on after install and burned out the first lay days before showings, and we hauled it away and re-laid the whole thing on our dime. The builder has since hired us for two more new builds. Separately on a different Hamptons property, see our four-years-later Water Mill estate walk-through from Willie Degel (Restaurant Stakeout / Uncle Jack's Steakhouse).
