Our place out toward Long Plain has a dirt drive that gets muddy. Can you still deliver?
Yes, and we plan for it. The unpaved drives around Long Plain and Hamlin soften after rain, so rather than risk a heavy truck on soft ground we park on firm footing and bring the pallets in on the forklift. Tell us how long and how soft the drive is when you book and we will bring the right setup.
Our soil is really sandy and the lawn fries every July. What should we put down?
That sandy outwash soil drains fast, which is why shallow-rooted grass burns out in a South Coast summer — Tall Fescue or the Bluegrass-Fescue blend roots deeper and holds up far better. Work some compost into the sand before the sod arrives so it holds moisture, and be ready to water right after laying.
The back of our lot near the river stays wet. Will sod take there?
The lower family streets and the ground along the Acushnet River sit on wetter loam over hardpan, so water can pool instead of soaking through. Grade those spots to shed water and break up the compacted hardpan before laying — do that and the sod roots fine, but do not lay it into a low pocket that holds standing water.
